Grief Informed School Training Perks for attending in person

Free Grief Consultation with Registration

Your registration also included a free virtual grief consultation series led by Kelly Daugherty to answer all your clinical case study questions after you head back to the office and apply the grief techniques you learn at the training. This training will be offered June 5, 2025 from 12:00pm-1:00pm.

Grief-Informed Schools: Strategies for Supporting Grieving Students

This one-day training provides the knowledge and tools needed to recognize and address the varied responses to grief, including emotional, cognitive, and physical, among students. Participants will explore current grief models, such as the Dual Process Model and Worden's Tasks, and learn how to apply these frameworks effectively in a school setting. The training focuses on practical communication techniques and individualized support strategies, enabling educators to create a compassionate and inclusive environment for grieving students. It empowers school professionals to offer practical, empathetic support, ensuring that grieving students' emotional and academic needs are met. This training is ideal for school counselors, school social workers, psychologists, teachers, and other school personnel. 


Learning Objectives

  • Identify common reactions and behaviors of grieving students, including emotional, cognitive, and physical symptoms.
  • Recognize current theories and models of grief and how they apply to support grieving students.
  • Describe the potential impact of grief on academic performance, attendance, and social interactions, and recognize the importance of creating a supportive environment for grieving students.
  • Develop effective communication skills to engage with grieving students and families.
  • Identify strategies for supporting grieving students in the classroom, including individualized bereavement plans, grief support groups, and educational accommodations.
  • Determine ways to collaborate with school staff and families to create a cohesive support network for grieving students, ensuring consistent care and understanding throughout the school community.

April Hannah is the founder of Hannah's Healing Wellness Studio and the co-founder of Path 11 Productions, with more two decades of experience as a licensed Mental Health Therapist. As a dedicated researcher of consciousness and after-death studies, April has explored life beyond physical existence, producing three documentaries on these topics to offer insights into the mysteries of the human experience.  Her unique blend of clinical expertise, energy healing, and spiritual coaching makes her a trusted guide for those seeking healing.

Kelly Daugherty, LCSW-R, FT, GC-C, BC-TMH

Kelly Daugherty is a licensed clinical social worker and fellow in thanatology (study of death, dying, and bereavement) and a highly regarded expert in the field of grief and loss. She is a seasoned social worker with over two decades in the clinical field. She owns Greater Life Grief Counseling, LCSW, and the Center for Informed Grief, LLC. Kelly co-owns Healing Strides, LLC, where emotional and physical well-being intersects in a unique 7-week program for grieving women. 

Kelly is also a contributing author of Holistic Mental Health and Brave Kids and lead author in the collaborative book The Grief Experience: Tools for Acceptance, Resilience and Connection.

Change from In-Person to Virtual Attendance Policy

If you need to switch from an in-person ticket to a virtual ticket, you may do so at no additional cost if your request is made on or before May 2, 2025. We can not provide a cost adjustment refund for the difference in price when making this switch.


Changes requested after May 2, 2025, will incur a $55 administrative fee. Please note that in-person registration includes meals and a day pass to the YMCA, which are non-refundable and non-transferable after this date, as arrangements will have already been finalized.


If your ticket was paid for by your school via purchase order, please note that we are unable to invoice the school for this administrative fee. As a result, this fee will need to be paid personally, out of pocket.



We are able to offer 10% off for groups registering 10 or more employees. We do not offer any individual discounts.


The California Board of Behavioral Sciences will accept courses approved by ASWB and NBCC.
